Civil Service Commission
By law, First Class Townships with three or more police officers or paid firefighters are required to have a Civil Service Commission for the appointment, promotion, discharge, suspension, and demotion of these employees.
The Commission consist of three Commissioners and are appointed by the Rostraver Township Board of Commissioners to serve for terms of six years. The Civil Service Commission consists of a Chairperson, Vice Chairperson, and Secretary. The Civil Service Commission for Rostraver Township is Harry G. Stratigos as Chairman, Thomas M. Yoder as Vice Chairman, and William Hixson as Secretary.
The Chairperson and Vice Chairperson preside at all meetings and hearings of the Commission, decide all points of order or procure and perform all duties required by law and the Rostraver Township Civil Service Rules and Regulations. The secretary handles all official correspondence of the Commission, send out all notices required by law and the Rostraver Township Civil Service Rules and Regulations. The secretary maintains a record of each examination or other official action of the Commission.
Civil Service Commissioners are empowered to make amendments of rules and regulations, to make investigations, and issue subpoenas.
