Recreation Department

In 2001 the new John DiVirgilio Sports Complex, named after a life long resident of Rostraver Township and dedicated volunteer to recreation, is located behind the Municipal Building. John DiVirgilio know as "Johnny D." is a pioneer to Rostraver recreation. He began to coach Rostraver Little League in 1950. Johnny D. made sure that every kid had an opportunity to play sports and on countless occasions has dipped into his own pocket to buy gloves for less fortunate children or to pay their registration fees. In 1963 Johnny D. received an umpire certification in Williamsport, Pennsylvania, which is the Home of the Little League Baseball. He umpired the Little League World Series. Although he no longer coaches or umpired all star games in all districts. He has dedicated countless hours to youth programs and other aspects of the Township. Johnny D. became a Rostraver Recreation Board member in 1967 to present date appointed by the late Robert Sokol, Rostraver Township Commissioner, whose son, Brian Sokol, was a Rostraver Township Commissioner. You will find him still active, always climbing the steps to the press box overseeing both fields. The mark Johnny D. has left on Rostraver Township and his legacy will forever be preserved through the Township's recreation facility: the "John DiVirgilio Sports Complex".

Presently at this site are four ball fields, numerous grand stands, two electronic scoreboards, two concession stands, one broadcasting booth, batting cages, a walking track, an electric scoreboard, and a football/soccer combination field. The fields are equipped with sprinkler systems, grass infields and irrigation systems. The players play on the same type of sod employed at PNC Park. The dugouts for the baseball fields were built by the same company who built the dugouts for PNC Park. A pavillion was constructed at the sports complex and there is lighting on the two upper ball fields. There are two batting cages, one at the sports complex and the other at Fellsburg. As a Girl Scout project, Anna Herold built two dugouts and a backstop at Fellsburg.

There is plenty of parking, so come out, enjoy, and let's play ball!
